It was decided that he should enlist in the U.K. rather than Australia. His family had a brass plate inscribed and installed in St Philip PennFields 'In memory of Vernon Lee Walker, Second Lieutenant 8th East Lancashires, of Cottesloe Western Australia, who fell near Arras France in 1917, aged 21 Years.
