211170 Alfred William Brown British Army Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry from:London Alfred Brown, my grandfather, must have been based at Golden Hill Camp
at Freshwater. This is where he met my grandmother who was a maid to
a Vicar there. She went there with the family who were formerly at
St Johns Church Lowestoft, her home town.
Family have told me his battalion was taken to France in the depths of
winter after being in the Far East, with no time to adjust to the cold,
many died of frost bite.
