209280 John Charles Brownbridge British Army Durham Light Infantry from:Cornsay Colliery, County Durham My grandfather Jack Brownbridge had a hard life after his mother died. His father turned to drink, and to escape, he joined the Army. All I know is he was in the Durham Light Infantry. He married in October 1919, and his son was born in 1923, at which time he was no longer serving. I presume he joined around 1918, as he is supposed to have lied about his age to get in (he was born in 1901, and would have been 17 in 1918) I have two photos of him in uniform, and that's all I know.
