760 Marjory Stephenson V.A.D. from:Cambridge, England Marjory joined the Red Cross as a cook She worked at the No 6 British Red Cross Rest Station from the 19th of October 1914 and served with the VAD in Boulogne, Abbeville and Paris between 1914-1916 and at Salonika between 1916-1917. Before the war she had been studying biochemistry at University College, London and this stood her in good stead and she worked her way up to become the Superintendent of Red Cross Sisters’ Convalescent Home, Salonika. She was made an Associate of the Red Royal Cross on the 3rd of June 1918. After the war she returned to her studies working with F.G.Hopkins in Cambridge and became a Fellow of the Royal Society for her reaearch into bacteria.
