262330 Pte. George William Johnson British Army 8th Battalion Cheshire Regiment from:45 Fairclough Lane, Edge Hill, Liverpool, (d.11th April 1917) George Johnson was the fifth child of nine children, three boys and 6 girls. He was born on the 18th March 1896, to John Bradney Johnson and Mary Ann Johnson. He lived with his parents and siblings at 45 Fairclough Lane, Edge Hill, Liverpool. His father owned a sweet shop/tobacconists and a hairdressers shop. Prior to joining the army his occupation was a porter. He joined the Army in June 1915 at Birkenhead Recruiting Office. He was 19 years and 98 days old. He served with the 8th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment until his death on the 11th April 1917 at the age of 21 years. He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.
