260756 Stok1. Garn Wood Royal Navy HMS Monmouth from:Leith (d.1st November 1914) Garn Wood was the grandson of my great grandfather and his first wife. I have only just discovered his story. Garn was born 14th Oct 1895 in Leith. He enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1913 and gave his date of birth as 14th Oct 1894 presumably to make himself old enough to enlist. His father was a stoker in the Merchant Navy and his grandfather appears to have been on the sea all his life. It was very sad to discover he died so young in the Battle of Coronel on 1st of November 1914, so many lives lost that day on ships not fit for the service expected of them.
