259945 Pnr. Ernest Jessie Goldie British Army 5th Battalion Special Brigade Royal Engineers from:Glasgow (d.9th October 1916) Ernest Goldie is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme. He was aged 18 years and 7 months at the time of his death. He was originally in the Highland Light Infantry and was transferred into the Royal Engineers Special Brigade. Having returned with his family from Canada in 1915, he was by trade a plumber when he enlisted. He may have died during the Canadian offensive to take Regina Trench near Courcelette and Le Sars. He died 3 weeks before the end of the Battle of the Somme on 18th of November 1916.
