258671 Pte. Sigursteinn Holm "Stonie" Sigurdson Canadian Expeditionary Force 8th Battalion (d.10th Oct 1918) Stonie's real name was Sigursteinn Sigurdson and he was born in Gimli, Manitoba on 28th of February 1894. He was of Icelandic-Canadian descent. He was a carpenter when he enlisted soon after war broke out. He fought with the 8th Battalion at Langemarck, Ypres, and was taken prisoner in the defence of the lines near St. Julien on 22nd of April 1915. He was interned in the Giessen POW camp until 30th of October 1918 when he died of the Spanish flu. Out of four boys who enlisted in the army, three died in the war.
