Able.Sea. Andrew Fulton

Royal Navy

from:Banbridge, Co Down, NI

Andrew Fulton, an Irishman, born 16th October 1899 served in the Royal Navy in both World Wars. He was born in Doagh, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland. Father of seven children. Some of his descendants live in New Zealand where he and his wife Jeanie lived in their latter years. He was awarded a medal by the Russian Government in the 1980s for his help at the evacuation of women and children in Murmansk (this is not on his WW2 war records). He died in Christchurch, New Zealand at the age of 94 in November 2003 and is buried in Christchurch.

Additional Information:

This is my grandfather. He died in 1992 (not 1994). I've never heard of this Russian medal and I would like it verified. He didn't mention it to me and I visited him virtually every weekend in the early to mid-1980s. He certainly served on the Murmansk run which he told me about. His ship was bombed and he ended up in the water and then in Archangel for a few months to deal with his broken leg due to the bombing. This is his information to me. He also served in the Merchant Navy. He was a gunner in the navy. My grandmother's name was Jeannie. He was an Able Seaman and a Gunner.
