from:Cheltenham

(d.2nd May 1918)

Arthur Howes served with the 1st Devonshires.

Additional Information:

Arthur was a soldier of Regency Cheltenham son of Florence Howes. Arthur lived in Cheltenham until loosing his mum at an early age of 10 years'he later moved to Pontypridd with his brother willam, raised by his step father Joseph Poole. Arthur moved back to Cheltenham and stayed with his Grandma Ellen Hayward. Arthur worked in the Cheltenham train station before joining the army. My grandmother said she saw Arthur on his horse in his cavalry uniform and can remember him saying he has a bad feeling about returning to war second time around. Arthur unfortunatley never return home like many. Our eternal respect goes out to him and his friends.
