John MacKay is on the Roll of Honour in Lewis and this states he was wounded five times.

Additional Information:

Sgt John MacKay 9488 was born in Glasgow but lived in Callanish with his mothers brother Neil Smith, John was a piper in the 2nd and 7th Seaforth Highlanders it is believed that he is the piper featured on the cover of Trevor Royles book Flowers of the Forest, the picture is from the Somme july 1916
