Pte. Robert Akid

British Army 11th Btn. Manchester Regiment

from:Manchester

(d.16th August 1917)

Robert Akid would have been my great uncle. All we know of his death is that he was allegedly shot by a sniper. He left a wife Bertha and a child, Peter, who died.

Additional Information:

We now believe that the story that he was shot by a sniper was just to give comfort to his widow and mother. It is most likely that he died in an artillery barrage as he crossed the Steenbeck stream heading towards Langemarck.
