239705 L/Cpl. John Thomas Denford British Army 1/3rd Btn. B Coy. Monmouthshire Regiment from:Cwmtillery (d.29th Dec 1915) John Denford was born in Redcliffe, Bristol, Gloucestershire and enlisted at Abergavenny. He resided at 6 Brynmorgan Terrace, Cwmtillery and was the son of Francis and Florence E. Denford of Bristol, Gloucestershire, brother of Thomas George Denford who also gave his life for his country. John died on 29th December 1915, age 22, and is buried at Ferme-Olivier Cemetery, Elverdinghe. He is commemorated on the Abertillery Central Memorial, Somerset Street, Abertillery, and also in the publication With Rifle and Pick, pictured in the South Wales Argus dated 24th of June 1915 and also pictured in the South Wales Gazette dated 25th of February 1916.
