Buried in the CWGC Cemetery in Al Amara, Iraq.
According to the 5th Bn Wilts Regt War Diary, on the 25th of January 1917 the Bn were involved in an attack on Turkish trenches resulting in the deaths of 2 officers and 4 wounded. 33 other ranks were killed and 110 wounded.
William Lowne Smith was my first cousin three times removed.
Twenty four-years later his son perished with the sinking of HMS Hood.
We will remember them.
