Pte. Thomas Fenwick

British Army 15th Btn. Durham Light Infantry

(d.20th Sep 1916)

Thomas Fenwick took part in the attack on the first day of the Somme along with his brother Arthur (who was in the Northumberland Fussiliers, Tyneside Irish). Another brother, George, was also fatally wounded on the 1st. Thomas was moved to a field hospital at Heilly near to La Boisselle where he was wounded. He is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery near Heilly.

Additional Information:

My great uncle, John Mawson, was a friend of Thomas. They both served in the 15th DLI, both died of wounds on the same day and are buried very close to each other. Their names appear on Pittington war memorial. I suspect that John transferred to 15th from 18th DLI to serve next to his friend. I can't find a photograph of John and was wondering if you might have one of the two of them together.
