Brigadier General John Edmond Gough, V.C., C.B., C.M.G., was A.D.C. to H. M. the King and Chief of Staff of the 1st Army British Expeditionary Force in France.
He was the younger son of Gen. Sir Charles Gough, V.C., G.C.B. born Oct. 25, 1871, he died at Estaires on 22nd of February 1915 of wounds inflicted on the 20th of February and was created after his death a Knight Commander of the Bath, in recognition of his most distinguished service in the field.
He served with distinction with the Rifle Brigade in the Campaigns in British Central Africa, 1896 and in Egypt and fought a great fight in France & Flanders from August 1914 until his death.
