Cpl. Leslie Thomas
British Army 16th Btn. King's Royal Rifle Corps
from:Chester
Leslie Thomas was my granddad who was just 22 years old when he volunteered in the "Church Lads Brigade" the 16th Battalion Royal Rifles in early 1914.
Like many he never spoke about his experiences and all that I have managed to piece together was that he was wounded in the right knee while out on patrol in no mans lands on 10th June 1916 near Auchy. He is mentioned as "wounded" in the KRR's war diary for that day and my dad believes he was gassed not long before.
His war medals, safety razor and medical records are all we have although we have managed to figure out where he was wounded, in no man land opposite the "Hight St" or "Back St" trenches to the left of Auchy.
