John Knott, my great uncle, enlisted in the 1st Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment in 1915 he was killed in action 2nd July 1916 at the Bttle of the Somme. His name is on the Thiepval Monument.

John Henry Knott, son of John Henry Knott and Sarah Elizabeth Crompton Dobson, was born on 29/7/1897 in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. He was baptised in Gainsborough on 21/8/1897. John Henry died of his wounds on 3/7/1916 The Somme. Private, Lincolnshire Regiment, 1st Battalion. Service No; 14655
