Far. Leonard William Telford
Australian Army 12th Btn. Machine Gun Corps
from:Condon Street, Bendigo
(d.5th May 1917)
In trying to find out information about my great grandfather, his brother, Leonard, kept popping up in searches. I found an article on Trove from the Bendigo Advertiser, dated 6th Dec 1918, titled "Kennington Anzac's Return" which mentioned both brothers. But, what I found fascinating was that it stated Leonard was killed by a bomb from an aeroplane, at Bapaume, France. He got promoted to Farrier. He grew up around horses (his father was a carter).
There is also a photo of him in another Trove article, with some very sad bereavement notices in another, as well. His active service lasted 13 months. I would love to know more about where he fought.
