Pte. Thomas Singyard

British Army 22nd Btn. London Regiment

from:Bemondsey

(d.9th July 1916)

Pte. Thomas Singyard was the older brother of my nan. In the family we all believe he lied about his age to sign up. He served with the 22nd (Queen's) Battalion, London Regiment and died on 9th july 1916 at the age of just 17.

Additional Information:

Tommy was also the older brother of my Nan, Francis Singyard and he did indeed lie about his age to join up. I have visited his grave a couple of times. He was a member of the 'Jamaica Road Pals' although I cannot find any details about them on-line. I have an electronic copy of the battalion war diary from the National archives that I am transcribing. He appears to have been wounded on 8th July and died at Casualty Clearing Station number 6 on the 9th.

There is a photo of Tommy Singyard on Ancestry with his Mother and 2 of his sisters.
