Gnr. James Delaney

British Army Royal Garrison Artillery

(d.24th Dec 1916)

My Great grandfather James Delaney served with the Royal Garrison Artillery in the Battle of the Somme. Family say he died in it but his death was after the end of the battle on 24th October 1916 so I assume he died from injuries received as he's buried in St. Marie Cemetery Le Harve. I want to trace his unit etc... but don't know how to. Any advice or info would be gratefully received.

Additional Information:

I think we may have a common ancestor. My great grandfather was Gnr James Delaney from Belfast. I think his number (its on another pc) was 4978. He was a gunner who must have been injured in the great battle as the records we have had him dying at the field dressing hospital but there are two dates, December 24th or 25th. I have pics of his Deadman's Penny, my cousin Seamus owns it now.
