Robert `Hodge was born in Edinburgh on 12th November 1897, the son of John and Elizabeth Hodge (nee Taylor) of 135 West Carron, Falkirk, Stirlingshire. John was a gasman. They had at least five children:
Maggie Hodge (b. 1889)
John Hodge (b. 1891)
William Hodge (b. 1892)
Robert Taylor Hodge (b. 1897) and
George Hodge (b. 1898). Elizabeth also had a child
Maggie Taylor (b. 1890)
Robert Hodge was employed as a labourer.
He enlisted on 23rd April 1915 and served with the Royal Naval Division.
He joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 9th September 1915 and was posted to Nelson Battalion on 21st September 1915.
He was evacuated from Gallipoli on 8th January 1916 and was sent to France in May 1916, where he was killed during the attack on Beaucourt.
Robert's body was never found or identified
