Pte. Arthur Howard Hopkins
British Army Rifle Brigade
from:East London
My grandfather, Arthur Howard Hopkins, was born in June 1898. He served with the Rifle Brigade in World War 1. He was wounded on 23 September 1917 during the third battle of Ypres. He spent two and half days in no man's land but survived and lived to the age of 90 years. After convalescing, he was later transferred to the Royal Highlanders S/28017 but was soon discharged after further medical examination.
We believe my grandfather may have been part of the 1st battalion. I have a letter my father wrote in 1984 when he visited my granddad in London for the last time. It is an account of grand dad's WW1 experience including being wounded and finding his way out of no-man's land.
