2nd Lt. William Alan Copeland

British Army 1st Battalion Royal Scots

(d.25th Apr 1915)

William Copeland was a 2nd Lt with the 1st Battalion he was fighting at Sanctuary Wood, Zillebeke when he was killed during the 2nd Battle of Ypres. He was 18 years olf, the son of Mrs. and the late Major Frederick Copeland of the 69th Punjabis. William is buried in Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery.

Additional Information:

He was born in in India on 16th October 1896 in India and the son of the late Major Frederick Copeland of the 69th Punjabis and Nina Winifred Copeland (nee Willcocks). He attended Felsted School in Sept 1911 to July 1914 and was part of the Shooting VIII team. In 1914, passed into R.M.C. Sandhurst.

WWI: 2nd Lt British Army 1st Bn., The Royal Scots (Lothian Rgt), he was fighting at Sanctuary Wood, Zillebeke when he was killed during the 2nd Battle of Ypres, France April 25 1915, aged 18. William is buried in Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery, Belgium.
