Arthur Smijth-Windham died on 30 December 1915 at age 41, lost at sea in the sinking of the RMS Persia.

Additional Information:

Arthur Russell Windham was returning to the Sudan as a Divisional Engineer based at Atbara and drowned off Crete when SS Persia was torpedoed. His name is recorded on the South Harting War Memorial although he did not serve in the forces in WW1.

He was my grandfather, and both my grandmother and mother are buried at Harting.
