In April 1911 he resided in Islington, London and emigrated 1911 to Sydney Australia. He was a labourer. He served in the military 1915-16 in the 8th then 4th Reinforcements 19th Battalion. His height was given as 5'7", eye color blue, hair color brown, weight 7st 10 lbs, religion Church of England. when he joined 19th Battalion & 4th battalion AIF, WW1, Postal address 38 Lower Fort St Dawes Point. He gave false details at enlistment. He said he was born in Redfern Sydney in 1897.
