Pte Patrick "Pat" Connelly
British Army 8th Black Watch
from:Kelty
(d.27 Sep 1915)
I am researching the death and final resting place of my wife's great-uncle Private Patrick Connelly, 8th Battalion Black Watch, Regimental Number - 3257,
Patrick was killed on the 27th September, 1915, at the battle of Loos in the little willie trench.
We believe that he was killed in the same action as Captain Fergus Bowes-Lyon due to the date of his death and whereabouts. We were under the impression that the position had been overrun by the Germans and the bodies had been lost in the mud, but given the recent events concerning Captain Fergus Bowes-Lyon it would appear that the position was held and that the bodies were recovered and placed in a mass grave in the nearby quarry at Vermelles.
