Cpl. Herbert Bowley

Herbert Bowley was born 1893 in Stoke Gifford, Gloucestershire to Alfred Halford Bowley & Eliza Ada Curtis. He was a Coal Hewer for the Powell Tillery Company in Abertillery. He served with the 3rd Monmouths, and lost his life on the 3rd of May 1915. Herbert is buried at the Poelcapelle British Cemetery.

Bowley, Herbert - Corporal - 1296 - 3rd Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment died 11th May 1915 at the age of 21. He was born in St. Thomas's, Bristol, Gloucestershire, enlisted at Abertillery; son of Alfred Halford and Eliza Bowley of Stoke Gifford, Bristol, Gloucestershire. He is buried at Poelcapelle British Cemetery, Langemark- Poelkapelle, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium and is commemorated on the Abertillery Central Memorial, Somerset Street, Abertillery and on the St. Michael’s Church Memorial, Church Street, Abertillery. He is also commemorated in the Roll of Honour published in ‘With Rifle and Pick’ - commemorated on the St. John’s Church Memorial, Griffin Road, Six Bells, Abertillery.
