During the war I was evacuated from Glasgow to Dalmore and later Knipoch House. Both residences are located 6 miles south of Oban, Scotland. I was evacuated from September 1939 to June 1943. There were about 10 of us evacuees, boys and girls of various ages. We were very well taken care of and each of us had our own jobs to do. My memories of that time are very happy.
The estate was owned by Major and Mrs. Mellor who were wonderful people. Mrs. Lackie looked after us for three years. This lady devoted her life to us - she was a lovely lady. Our teacher, Miss Cameron, also spent some time with us teaching us in the drawing room of Knipoch House. We later went to a one-room school in Kilninver. Many grades were taught there by Miss Campbell. I have lived in Canada for almost 60 years but my memories of these wartime years are very special. A young lad who lived with Mr. and Mrs. MacLean in Kilninver was very special to me, his name was Freddie Robertson. I am deeply saddened to learn recently that Freddie died in 2007. I often wonder about all the other young people who were with me. We, who are still living, are very senior now but it would be wonderful to hear from any one of you.

Celebrate by honouring members of your family who served in the Secomd World War both in the forces and at home. We love to hear about the soldiers, but also remember the many who served in support roles, nurses, doctors, land army, muntions workers etc.
