245321 Rflmn. Daniel Pryce Duffy British Army Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) Danny Duffy was injured in Best, Holland in September 1944. His leg was almost severed above the knee and he was shot in the head. He was taken to the church in Best where he was placed with the deceased. The nuns praying for the deceased noticed he was still alive. He was returned to Britain, his leg was saved, and learned to walk and speak again. He was discharged from the Cameronians on 8th March 1945. He suffered for some years with bad dreams, headaches and a slight limp. He received a war pension and eventually returned to Birmingham where he had been working before joining up. He continued to work, married and raised three children in Birmingham before sadly passing away in March 1983. His one regret was to have never received his war medals. He always talked about his friend Ben (Bernard) Duffy who died in action in France. Since Danny passed away we have found that Ben is buried in a war grave in France. Danny's memory of the action that lead up to his injuries was vague, his last memory was of gliders going overhead.
