223416 Roy Calvin "High Pockets" Joiner United States Army Company D 41st Armoured Division from:Poplar Bluff My father, Roy C Joiner, joined the Army in June of 1944 and was shipped to San Antonio, Texas for basic training. I don't know much about his history in the service but he did serve in the Rhine Valley campaign, the Battle of the Ardennes and fought with his unit into Berlin. He was in Berlin when he was sent home Dec 16 arriving at his mother's on Christmas Eve. He was cleared out through Jefferson Barracks in St Louis. He reported being sole survivor on 3 occasions. Once on patrol his group was machine guned by the Germans and he fell to the ground. Hours later when he raised up the man on either side of him was dead. He came home without a scratch. But according to his wife, my mother, he crawled into a wine bottle and stayed until he died 3 months befor his 39th birthday. I have some pictures I would be glad to copy and share. There is one name I recall on one of the pictures a Cordona. Anyone in company D of the 41st get in touch with me and I will copy the pictures. I took copies to the museum in Bloomfield Mo.
