215484 John Joseph Sanderson British Army 5th Reconnaissance Corps from:Sunderland My grandfather John Joseph Sanderson served with 5th Reconnaissance Corps. He was evacuated from Dunkirk beaches in 1940. Later he saw action in North Africa, Italy (Cassino) then Greece at the end of the war. I have in my posession a diary of his, some Reconnaissance journals from 1945 to 1947 in mint condition and allied currency too - some I was told were for use behind enemy lines. I'd really love to learn more as he never spoke of his wartime experiences. He was such a gentle man. He did a variety of jobs after the war, becoming a bus driver in Sunderland until retirement in 1980. He died in September 1980 less than 6 months after retirement.
