Canadian Royal Navy HMCS Outremont

My father's story is a secret war files story of WW2 involving the "rising of U-1006", it is a secret story of the achievement of the 2 ships HMCS Outremont and HMCS New Waterford, the later cover up of the U-1006 Incident. Between November of 1943 to the Spring of 1944, this secret was kept until 2002-2003 when my father told me about the whole incident. My father died in 2003.

It is a tarnished story of lies created by the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal British Navy to protect information of the "Rising Of Uboat U-1006". There is a surviving veteran, who lives in Ontario, Canada that can confirm info about this whole incident and is the grandson of Westley Allen Spinks. Another lives in Ontario, Canada who kindly lent me the photos that I have in my possession on my computer as well.

Off the coast of Norway in the winter of 1943, in November; a convoy group being escorted by the HMCS Outremont and the HMCS New Waterfort detected by sonar an uboat off the coast of Norway. The New Waterford acting as bait, allowed the Uboat 1006 to manoeuvre into position to sink the corvette, unfortunately for the U-1006 the HMCS Outremont was waiting with depth charges to bring the U-1006 to the surface. After an exciting combat action at sea the U-1006 was forced to surface, the Outremont and the New Waterford captured the crew of the U-1006 and it was one of the few German Submarines that was captured rather than scuttled. The Crew of the U-1006 was taken to Halifax, NS while the officers of the U-1006 were taken to Scotland and questioned. The U-1006 was towed to Halifax Harbour, NS and is researched at the West Arm Of Halifax at the Bedford Basin.

All would have been wonderful, the crews of the New Waterford and the Outremont were told that they soon will be going to Hollywood CA to make a war movie about the incident, however about 3 weeks after the incident the ship's captain of the Outremont ran the ship into a pier in Halifax Harbour. The crews of the Outremont and the New Waterford were sworn to secrecy and warned never to reveal info about the "Rising of the U-1006". Certain letters about to be sent home by crewmen were stopped and monitored and the whole incident was covered up by the British Navy and Canadian Navy. The Outremont and New Waterford were both put back into service to convoy duty. The Outremont was repaired at Halifax Harbour. Needless to say neither the crew of the Outremont nor of the New Waterford ever got to Hollywood to make their movie about the incident.
