About
205790W/O Arnost Mrtvy
Royal Air Force 313 Sqn.
from:Hrdiborice, Czech Republic
(d.19th Apr 1944)
Sir, the Belgian MOD is currently taking an initiative to generate Facebook pages to bring back to live the soldiers that fell and are buried in Belgium. As my partner is Czech, living in Olomouc, I started digging into W/O Arnost Mrtvy who died in Belgium on 19 April 1944 during a bomber escort mission above Brussels and Mechlin.Last weekend I was in Olomouc and I visited the monument on the Olomouc Cemetery of the Aeroclub of Olomouc where Mrtvy was mentioned. I equally had the occasion to visit the old installation of this aeroclub, where he apparently passed as well. As I was able to get a lot of information about the Club, the circumstances during which Mrtvy died, etc.
I intent to develop a Facebook page to bring Arnost back to 'life'. In order to complete the picture there is a lot of information missing as I am just starting to get bits of information together using the internet and my Czech partner.
So, basically, I am asking if you could help me find more details about Arnost Mrtvy: when he joined the CZE Airforce, how he got to England, how he joined the 313 Sqn, who where his friends, bosses, etc. Furthermore, I would like to know if any logbook is available or can be made available i.e. Did he participate in the Battle of England, the Dieppe operation, etc?
Any more relevant information about Arnost Mrtvy, the 313 Sqn such as photographs, maps, links, or any othyer contacts you might have would be more then appreciated. Hoping you could help me keeping the Czech heroes alive, kind regards,

Did you or your relatives live through the Second World War? Do you have any photos, newspaper clippings, postcards or letters from that period? Have you researched the names on your local or war memorial? Were you or your relative evacuated? Did an air raid affect your area?
If so please let us know.
Help us to build a database of information on those who served both at home and abroad so that future generations may learn of their sacrifice.
Celebrate your own Family History
Celebrate by honouring members of your family who served in the Secomd World War both in the forces and at home. We love to hear about the soldiers, but also remember the many who served in support roles, nurses, doctors, land army, muntions workers etc.
Please use our Family History resources to find out more about your relatives. Then please send in a short article, with a photo if possible, so that they can be remembered on these pages.
The free section of the Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers. We have been helping people find out more about their relatives wartime experiences since 1999 by recording and preserving recollections, documents, photographs and small items.
The website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.
If you are enjoying the site, please consider making a donation, however small to help with the costs of keeping the site running.
