A.B. Robert Wilfred "Buster" Brown HMS Wakeful

Wilf Brown, Buster served in the Royal Navy from 1936 to 1948. He was on HMS Drake and HMS Wakeful when it sank on 29th of May 1940 at Dunkirk. He also served on HMS Royal Sovereign, HMS Eaglet, HMS Dido, and LST 373. Wilf was a Freeman of the City of Durham.

Dennis Brown

Able.Sea. Edwin Thomas Wood

My dad Ted Wood joined in 1943 almost 17 years of age. He served on HMS Pembroke and HMS Dido as well as others. Dad never really talked about the battles but always the friendships and the scrapes they got into on shore leave. Dad always wanted to go back to the Greek Islands but never managed it, he died in 1979 at the age of 53.

Gill Twydell

L/Stkr. Stanley Hall HMS Musketeer

My Grandfather Stanley Hall served in the WW2 on both the HMS Dido and the HMS Musketeer. He was one of the very few to do the "Russian Run" on more than one occasion.

Rhett Baines

Sto1 Georgie "Spike" Donovan HMS Pembroke

Dad was in the Royal Navy from 22 Nov 1938-8 June 1949 list of ships he served on in order of service:
  • HMSPembroke
  • HMS Foxhound (H69)
  • HMS Mauritius(80)
  • HMS Caledonia (D53)
  • HMS Volunteer(D71)
  • HMS Lanka
  • HMS Waldegrave(k579)
  • HMS Dido
  • HMS Triumph

He served on a few more but I had trouble in deciphering dad's certificate of service records. He never spoke about the war during his lifetime but having received a copy of his war records recently and reading about his dangerous engagements makes you fill proud.
