HMS Abingdon HMS Abingdon was launched on the 11th June 1918, built by Ailsa Shipbuilders at Troon. At the outbreak of the Second World War she was was laid-up in Singapore. She was recommissioned and served with distinction in the Mediterranean. She was the adpoted warship of Kirkby-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire. She was badly damaged in air attacks on Malta in April 1942 and was beached in Bighi Bay, being declared a total loss, she was broken up in situ in 1950.
