P.G. 59 P.G. 59 was loacted at Servigliano. It was built during the Great War as a hutted POW camp surrounded by a high brick wall. It was used as a military store in the early days of the Second World War and was once more used as a POW camp from January 1941. In September 1943 when Italy surrendered about 3000 pows escaped from the camp through a hole in the wall. The camp was then taken over by the Germans and was used to hold Allied prisoners of war and Jews who were then moved to the exterination camps in Germany. Teh camp was closed in Speing 1944 when it was reached by the advancing Allied Army. Fronm 1945 to 1955 the camp was home to refugees from the former Italian colonies in Africa, Libya, Ethiopia and parts of Friuli which was occupied by the Yugoslav army.
