NA Hazel 4/7th Dragoon Guards

NA Hazel served with the 4/7th Dragoon Guards British Army. I have his unissued dogtags, made in preparation for deployment to the Far East and would love to get them home to his family. I am happy to cover all costs. If you are a family member or can put me in touch with them please get in touch.

Update: Unfortunately The Wartime Memories Project has lost touch with Dan, his website, facebook page and email have all ceased to function. But if you can add any details about the person listed, please use the add to record link below.

James Gordon

I am searching for anyone who was at the same camp as my uncle during WW2. He was captured in 1940 at St. Valery. His name is James Gordon from Dundee. The information I have is E793 BAB21, Stalag 344, Blechhammer.

I have many photographs taken at the camp and would be willing to share them with anyone, or the families of anyone who was there.

Able Sea. Edward Thomas Lander HMS Express

My grandfather, Edward Lander was shipwrecked and spent days afloat before he was picked up by the Germans and taken prisoner. He was in various POW camps, and I have the list, but he was in BAB 21 (Bau und Arbeits Battalion 21), Stalag 8b, where he is shown in photos unloading Red Cross Parcels. He was also on the forced westward march of POWs in January 1945.

Sig. Walter George Treen HMS Malvernian

My father Walter Treen was on board HMS Malvernian in August 1941 when it was sunk in the Atlantic. After two weeks adrift in a lifeboat he was rescued by a German ship and taken prisoner. After some months in Marlag und Milag Nord camp near Bremen, he was moved to Poland. He was put in Bau und Arbeits Batallion 21 based at Blechammer. At the end of 1944 he was moved with other prisoners on a death march, ending up in Bavaria, where the Americans eventually liberated him.

Pte. Joseph Rennie 5th Btn. Gordon Highlanders

Joseph Rennie was my Dad. I've been looking into his journey with the historian's at the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen. He was captured after the failed offensive at St Valery. I know one camp he was in BAB21. As I have a postcard that was sent to him there that he kept. POW number was 6707. The historian thought that was some kind of punishment camp. Possible for those that had made escape attempts. My Dad did talk about being next to a concentration camp and about passing whatever rations they could do the Jews whenever possible. Sounds like BAB21 bordered Auschwitz.

Gnr. Thomas Joseph Risley 23rd Field Regiment Royal Artillery

Tommy Risley from Latchford in Warrington was an ex-Regular in the Royal Horse Artillery who was called up from the Reserve list at the outbreak of war. He served with 23rd Field Regiment in Northern France as part of the BEF. He was captured at St Valery in June 1940 and marched to camp BAB21. He was a prisoner in E793, Stalag VIIIb in Silesia as well. He was force marched some 800kms east surviving what is now the infamous Long March of allied POWs to Germany in the face of Russian advances.

James Gordon

I am searching for anyone who was at the same camp as my uncle during WW2. He was captured in 1940 at St Valery. His name is James Gordon from Dundee. The information I have varies: E793 or BAB21 and Stalag 344, Blechhammer.

I have many photographs taken at the camp and would be willing to share them with anyone, or the families of anyone who was there.

Update

All the above camp numbers are part of the same Stalag - VIIIB, and refer to work camps, of which there were over 700.
