Sig. Ralph T. Small

Royal Canadian Navy HMCS Longueuil

from:Canada

My father, Ralph T. Small joined the Canadian Navy when he was 17. He was a signalmen on the frigate, H.M.C.S. Longueuil. Every Christmas he would tell us stories about spending Christmas on the ship on the cold ocean. He must have been very homesick. He was at the bar with some sailors and the bartender would not give him a beer. He told them he just returned from the war and the bartender finally took pity and he got his one beer. He returned from the war when he was twenty. He was very proud to have served his country and be in the Canadian Navy.
