WO James Talbert Houston DFC
RCAF 428th
I was doing some research on my grandfather in an attempt to find the other three men that were members of his flight crew with 428 "Ghost" Squadron when I found your site.
Warrant Officer James Talbert Houston served in the RCAF as a rear-gunner during the Second World War. During a mission in February 1944 his Halifax bomber was attacked and he was shot in the shoulder. Though he was injured WO Houston gave clear and concise orders which allowed the pilot to evade fighters on several occasions and return to base safely. For his skill and bravery, WO Houston was awarded the DFC. Unfortunately later that month, Houston and crew were shot down over Sweden and subsequently interned, until the end of the war.
In an article written about my grandfather there are three other men mentioned: Flight Officer W.A. Russell of LeRoy?, Sask, Warrant Officer D. Lightfoot of Burnham, Sask and Sgt. W.J. Walton of Toronto. The latter two men were both awarded the DFM and the first was also awarded the DFC.
Any information that anyone has would be appreciated.
I think your site is terrific and a very valuable source of information.
