Flt.Sgt. George Ronald "Ronnie" Johnson
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
from:Ollerton, Nr Knutsford, Cheshire
(d.6th Sep 1942)
I have just traced George Johnson after all these years. He was born in Ollerton near Knutsford in Cheshire. In Marthall churchyard his name is recorded on his mother and father's gravestone, although there is also a stone erected in Shrewsbury General Cemetery. The stone is not a CWGC stone but a stone probably erected by his wife Constance. They were married in Shrewsbury Register Office on August 8th 1942, the stone bears the script "For England".
I am presuming his home address was in Ollerton pre-war, although both his parents predeceased him. He was living at The Hollow, Whitehurst, near Wrexham when he was married - that is recorded on the marriage certificate.
He was killed in an air accident on 6th September 1942. The plane apparently crashed on Brampton Hill near RAF Madley.
I like to think I have joined all the dots in his service life. He was in the RAFVR before the war and was obviously called to the colours when war was declared. I have more information to gather but I live in hopes someone is out there who can fill any gaps or correct any errors.
