Norman Allin

Royal Air Force 490 Sqdn.

from:Wales, UK

My father, Norman Allin, joined the RAF in 1941. He was shipped out to Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida, where he learnt to fly with the US Navy.

He flew back to the UK and at some time was posted to RNZAF Squadron 490 based in Siera Leone. He flew Catalinas and later Sunderland Flying Boats. In 1952 he was promoted to Pilot Officer and joined 201 Squadron at Pembroke Dock. Unfortunately I know very little of what his war was like, but I believe it was a quiet war.
