My grandfather, Ernest Hannan, was killed on the retreat to Dunkirk in 1940. He was shot in the eye by sniper fire in a Belgium farm. He survived a few days but died sometime between 10th May 1940 and 24th September 1940 and was buried in Athies in France. He left a widow Mollie and a son Ernest.
