Sgt Mjr. Robert Smith
British Army Royal Signals
from:Liverpool
My grandfather Robert Smith, Royal Signals, served in Eygpt, Mainland Greece and Crete, where he was captured following the German Army invasion of the Island in 1942. He was held at Stalag 4F until the end of the war. His POW Number was 10692.
At the end of WW2 he was returned to the UK and discharged. He weighed some 6 stone in weight. He joined the Army in the mid 1930s during the great depression, a way of being fed. Loved by all his family, he died in 1989, partially due to the long-term effects of starvation and treatment as a POW.
RIP grandad. Loved always.
