Kenneth Esmong Roughley

Australian Army Royal Signals

from:Dural, NSW

Kenneth has his arms crossed.

My Grandfather Kenneth Roughley was captured in WW2 and interned at Stalag 18, I know little about his story as he didn't talk much about his experience; I did hear that the Germans were going to use him to lay cables so he smashed his hands so they couldn't use his experience also, I heard that he attempted to escape once and was to be shot by firing squad but on the day was too ill, the Germans gave him a reprieve.. I have read the Commandant of this particular Stalag had heart.
