CPO Frederick Ronald Davies

Royal Navy HMS Athene

My late father, Frederick Ronald Davies, also known as Killick Jack Dusty, served as CPO on the Athene from 31st October 1941 to 9th July 1945. I have his diary recording all the destinations and dates and have plotted all these on a world map. I also have photos (and names) of some of the crew including the full crew photo with the dog! but there is no date on this photo or port, it could be either San Francisco or San Diego. He also made mention of the tragic accident when Captain Jones was killed. This happened on 17th July 1942. I had always believed he had visited New Zealand but apparantly not. My only memory is the time based at Kyle of Localsh, (we lived at Kyleakin on Skye) January to July 1945, during which a number of U-boats were escorted into the loch after having surrendered and a number of us children were given a trip on board one of them, including a submerged section and we could look through the periscope. We were there for VE day.
