Joseph Monkhouse

Royal Navy HMS Fiona

from:Manchester

My grandfather, Joseph Monkhouse was amongst the 40 or so survivors when the vessel HMS Fiona was sunk off the coast of Egypt by German aircraft in April 1941. Most of the crew were lost. He was returned to the UK for leave following the sinking of the Fiona. A few weeks later he received a posting to Scotland, training for Service with the Russian convoy ships. He did not serve on the convoys and fortunately survived the war.
