Able Seaman Joseph Allcock

Royal navy HMS Manchester

from:Derby

My Dad, Joseph Allcock, having already survived the sinking of HMS Ark Royal survived the sinking of HMS Manchester and was taken prisoner of War and held by the Vichy French at the Laghouat Internment Camp in Algeria. He was hospitalised for some time with yellow fever and spoke very highly of the Red Cross and all they did for them. Upon his release, he was asked to speak at a fund raising dinner for the Red cross and I have a copy of his typed speech.
