212322 Stoker Lawrence Davies Royal Navy HMS Penelope from:Woy Woy, Australia My grandfather, Lawrence Davies, is sometimes listed amongst those who had perished at sea after the sinking of the Penelope off Naples in February 1944. He was in fact among the survivors of that sinking, and lived out the rest of his life back home in Australia, raising two daughters and several grandchildren before finally succumbing to cancer of the lungs in 1986. He did not like to talk about the war, and so I have only recently begun to piece together some of his personal history, but he was always very proud of his time served aboard the "Pepperpot" as he always referred to her. I would very much like to provide some photographs and personal anecdotes some time in the near future.
