Bob Bird
Royal Air Force Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment
My late father, Bob Bird, was a photographer with the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment, RAF Helensburgh. His wartime diary states that he flew to RAF Middleton St. George in Halifax bomber W7655, on Tuesday April 28 1942. He was accompanied by Mr Vincent Drake, head of air sea rescue trials at MAEE. Presumably this flight was something to do with air sea rescue equipment fitted to bombers, says Bob's son Robin, who is writing a book about the MAEE in WW2.
